David Beckham tours Marlins Park

Carlos Gimenez dines with Beckham, Marcelo Claure

MIAMI – Former England captain David Beckham toured Marlins Park on Wednesday afternoon, one of the venues considered a possibility for hosting his Major League Franchise franchise while a soccer-specific stadium is built.

Sky 10 showed Beckham talking pictures from the outfield.

On Tuesday, Mayor Carlos Gimenez and Beckham had dinner at the home of billionaire Marcelo Claure, reportedly a potential investor in Beckham's MLS franchise.

Gimenez said the meeting with Beckham "went well."

"Hopefully, we can get an MLS franchise here but also just as importantly -- the Beckham name," he said. "There are some sights and I'm not really going to talk about it because that, obviously, the speculation goes up and all of that and so there are sights that they are looking at and we're doing our best to help them, so the good news is that they're not looking for money to build a stadium or anything like that, so that's always welcome news."

Claure posted several photos to his Instagram account Tuesday, including one with himself, Beckman, and Simon Fuller.

"Una noche inolvidable en mi casa en Miami con David Beckham y Simón Fuller en Miami esta noche," read the caption.

The Associated Press reported last month that Beckman picked Miami as the destination for his MLS franchise. The option of becoming a team owner was included in the MLS contract Beckham signed when joining the Galaxy in 2007.

There are currently 19 MLS teams, and league commissioner Don Garber hopes to expand to 24 teams by the 2020 season. A 20th team is already in place to begin playing in 2015 after Premier League club Manchester City and its partner, the New York Yankees, paid an expansion fee of $100 million to launch New York City FC. Orlando is expected to be announced as the 21st franchise after receiving funding for a soccer-specific stadium.
