Father of baby who nearly drowned in canal speaks out

Father: Mom of baby suffers from postpartum depression

MIRAMAR, Fla. – A shelter hearing was held Monday for a baby who nearly died earlier this month in a South Florida canal.

The boy's father spoke to Local 10 claiming that his wife is sick.

Conlan Armour said his 3-month-old son is still his top priority. He attended the shelter hearing about the boy's welfare after his wife Inakesha Armour was arrested after police said she was caught trying to drown the baby in a Miramar canal earlier this month.

"I feel like this is a sickness that needs to be addressed," Conlan Armour said. "A lot of families get broken up. Postpartum depression and psychosis are a real serious thing. I just feel unfortunate it had to go down this way."

While the Department of Children and Families works with him to keep the boy safe, Inakesha Armour remains in jail. She was officially charged with first-degree attempted murder Monday.

Family and friends insist she's not a monster, but sick, suffering from postpartum depression. Records show the mother had tried to overdose or kill the infant before.

The boy remains in his dad's custody as both sides of the case move forward.

"I hope everything runs smooth," Conlan Armour said.
