Florida girl, 6, missing since July, found safe

FORT MYERS, Fla. – State law enforcement officials found a southwest Florida girl who was missing since July on Wednesday hours after alerting the public about her disappearance.

According to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, 6-year-old Zainab Hassan had been last seen in the 2200 block of Fowler Street in Fort Myers on July 1.

Zainab is Black, approximately 4-feet tall, weighing 75 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a turquoise shirt with butterflies and gray leggings with butterflies. Agents say she has a scar on her left eyebrow.

Officials said she may have been in the company of Yassir Hassan and Tammy Gilbert. A flyer describes them as “companion adults” and doesn’t specify what relation, if any, they may have to Zainab.

They reported she was found safe Wednesday afternoon.
