VENICE, Fla. – A Florida woman is telling a terrifying tale after an alligator smashed its way into her home.

Mary Hollenback says she was in her living room watching television last month, when she heard her front door rattle.

She went to investigate and saw the nearly 8-foot-long gator breaking into her home through her screen door.

Terrified, Hollenback says she was able to grab her cellphone, which was sitting on a kitchen counter, not far from where the gator broke in her house.

She ran out to her patio and called 911.

“I was shaking too badly to even try to find a number for FWC, knowing that they were most likely the ones to extract the gator,” Hollenback said.

Venice Police and FWC officers responded and captured the gator, which was 7-feet, 11-inches long.

Thankfully, Hollenback was not hurt.

“I was alone, and fortunately do not have any pets,” said Hollenback. “That could have changed the entire situation, and not for the better!”

Alligator mating season runs from April through June, so experts say more and more gators are venturing out looking for love.
