COOPER CITY, Fla. - Deputies have arrested a Cooper City woman who they say called 911 falsely claiming that she had been attacked and stabbed.

Ginger Powell, 31, is charged with knowingly giving false information to authorities and misuse of the 911 system.

Deputies say Powell called 911 Wednesday, claiming a black male had attacked her. She even provided a physical and clothing description of the so-called suspect.

As a result of her claims, the Broward Sheriff's Office set up a perimeter in the area from Pine Island Road to Southwest 90 Avenue from Stirling Road to Southwest 53 Street.

A K-9 Unit was also called in, as well as the BSO Aviation Unit.

Deputies say Powell finally recanted her story after her boyfriend told police the incident was a fake call placed to get attention.

Both Powell and her boyfriend are facing charges.
