Fired Hallandale High School principal fights for job back

Darren Jones claimes he, wife were viewed 'guilty before proven innocent'

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. ā€“ The former principal of Hallandale High School is fighting for his job back after he was fired amid allegations he beat his teenage daughter with an electrical cord in 2011.

Darren Jones, 42, posted a video to YouTube Sunday showing him with his wife and two of their children. Their 19-year-old daughter, Danielle Jones, was not in the video. Jones said she was away due to college obligations.

In the video, Jones claims he and his wife, who was also fired from her teaching job, "were guilty in the eyes of others until proven innocent."

Aggravated child abuse charges were also filed against Jones and his wife, Serena Jones, for the Jan. 9, 2011, incident but were later dropped.

According to the Sun-Sentinel, Serena Jones, who was a teacher at Driftwood Middle School, in Hollywood, was arrested for the same charge because she was accused of failing to protect her daughter.

Police said the daughter suffered bruising and scars on her arms, legs, back and hands. The parents temporarily lost custody of their three children due to the incident.

In the video, Jones claims he and his wife should be reinstated to their former positions since all charges were dropped against them.
