Police say gunman got away empty-handed

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. ā€“ Police are investigating an attempted robbery at a McDonald's in northeast Miami-Dade County.

The attempted robbery occurred shortly before 3Ā a.m. Thursday at the McDonald's onĀ Northeast 167th Street.

Police said a man approached the drive-thru window and pulled out a gun, causing the cashier and another employee to call 911 and lock themselves in a freezer.

Detectives could be seen interviewing employees and dusting for fingeprints atĀ the drive-thru window.

Police said the gunman left empty-handed.

Frank Garcia lives next door to the McDonald's and told Local 10 News that he saw police shining flashlights outside his window while searching for the gunman.Ā 

"Nervous. Gotta be careful around here --Ā everywhere,"Ā he said.Ā 

The 24-hour fast-food restaurantĀ was closed for several hours, but reopened aboutĀ 6 a.m.Ā 

No injuries were reported.

"The safety of our crew and customers is of the upmost importance," McDonald's spokeswoman Amberli Kelly told Local 10 News in an email. "We are very grateful that no one was physically harmed and at the police's quick response. As this is an ongoing investigation, all further inquiries should be directed to the Miami-Dade Police Department."
