10 rescued after boat capsizes off Sunny Isles Beach

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue helps group after boat begins taking on water

SUNNY ISLES BEACH, Fla. – Ten people were rescued from a capsized boat Tuesday afternoon off Sunny Isles Beach.

Video from Sky 10 showed passengers standing on top of the capsized boat before they were brought aboard a Miami-Dade Fire Rescue boat.

The boat capsized after one of the 10 people onboard noticed the 22-foot Wellcraft taking on water.

"It was a bit frightening, you know," Ricko Maragh told Local 10 News.

Local 10 News was told the group was out fishing when their boat began taking on water and then overturned.

"You felt the whole other side of the boat coming over," Maragh said. "People were holding on to one side, literally falling off like Titanic."

All 10 passengers climbed on top of the hull of the boat once it flipped over. Haulover Park lifeguards on Wave Runners arrived in less than 10 minutes.

The captain was too shaken to speak, but others on the boat were grateful for the happy ending.

"I survived the ocean," Maragh said. "That's pretty crazy."
