Second teen gunned down in northwest Miami-Dade County

Shooting reported not far from where 5 people shot Monday

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. ā€“ The Miami-Dade Police Department confirmed Wednesday that a second teenager was killed a short distance from where a 15-year-old boy was gunned down in northwest Miami-Dade County Monday night.

Police said Ralph Hemingway III, 16, was shot outside his home about 10:30 p.m. in the area of Northwest Eighth Avenue and 77th Street.

The shooting happened about an hour and a half after Joewuan Coles, 15, was shot and killed outside an apartment complex at Northwest 75th Street and 16th Avenue.

In that case, police said four men, ages 22, 23, 25 and 28, were sitting at a table in the apartment complex when two gunmen opened fire.

Miami-Dade police spokesman Alvaro Zabaleta said it doesn't appear Coles was an intended target, but was near the four men who were shot.

Four victims were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, while Coles was taken to North Shore Hospital. The teen was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Zabaleta said the gunmen used high-powered rifles and are still on the loose.

It's unclear whether the two shootings are related.

Anyone with information about either shooting is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. A reward of up to $3,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest.
