Divers enjoy rare whale shark sighting off Florida coast

OFF HOBE SOUND, Fla. – Boaters looking for adventure off the Florida coast came face-to-fin with a rare whale shark sighting last week.

Billy Swezey, a.k.a. Captain Bill, was with a friend and his dog, Jetty, about 4 miles east of Jupiter on Thursday when the group spotted the whale shark in the ocean.

Swezey's friend, Sierra, dove in to get an up close look and record her encounter with a member of the largest fish species on the planet.

This particular whale shark looked to be around 25 feet in length.

Although sightings are rare in Florida, the warm waters in the area have been known to attract the occasional whale shark.

In October, divers off Miami Beach were shocked to see an even larger whale shark in about 300 feet of water.
