Florida health officials reported 15,431 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, along with 98 more residents’ deaths as a result of COVID-19.
It’s the second-largest single-day case increase reported in the state, behind only the 17,192 new cases reported Dec. 31.
Florida has now confirmed 1,392,123 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began and 22,188 resident deaths, according to the health department. Non-resident deaths within the state are now at 327.
There have been at least 63,882 hospitalizations attributed to the novel coronavirus in Florida since the start of the outbreak.
The statewide positivity rate on yesterday’s testing was 12.74%.
Deaths verified in the past day include one in Miami-Dade County, one in Broward County and two in Palm Beach County.
COVID-19 vaccines have begun to be administered to seniors by appointment only at some sites in South Florida, though the rollout of the shots has been met with some issues.

Worldwide, the number of COVID-19 cases reported is more than 86 million. There have been more than 1.8 million deaths worldwide attributed to the pandemic, according to data compiled from various sources by Johns Hopkins University.
The United States has reported 20.8 million confirmed cases and has had more than 354,000 deaths from COVID-19, the highest totals in the world.
