MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Miriam Coulibaly, speaking to a judge through a Creole interpreter on Friday, told a judge she didn’t want to fight charges and entered a guilty plea in the death of three boys that shook a Little Haiti neighborhood two years ago.
The DUI crash happened May 25, 2019 in North Miami.
Investigators said 17-year-old Richcarde Dumay, 15-year-old Lens Desir, and 13-year-old Gideon Desir were walking to a bus stop along Northeast 125th Street early on Saturday, May 25, 2019, when Coulibaly lost control of her vehicle and struck them on the sidewalk. The boys, members of the Little Haiti Football Club, were on their way to a soccer tournament in Weston.
Investigators said Coulibaly had been drinking at The BODY strip club on Biscayne Bouleveard, where she also worked, before getting into her car. Initial reports said she was partying on South Beach Friday night ahead of the crash. The owners of the strip club said they weren’t sure whether she was working before the crash.
On Friday, Coulibaly pleaded guilty to three counts of DUI manslaughter and 3 counts of vehicular homicide. Coulibaly could face up to 90 years in a state prison.
According to the arrest report, police smelled alcohol coming from Coulibaly’s car. They also said they heard Coulibaly telling medical staff that she had been partying before the crash and found surveillance video of her at a strip club.
Police said her blood alcohol level was found to be nearly twice the legal limit.
Coulibaly was also hurt in the crash and spent days being treated at Aventura Hospital and Medical Center under police guard.
Records showed that Coulibaly had a long history of driving infractions.
