EXCLUSIVE: Local construction worker is trying to get back on his feet, after his work truck is stolen

DAVIE, Fla. – Thieves targeted a hard working small business owner in Davie earlier this month, stealing his work truck, tools and his family’s rent money.

Local construction worker, Phillip Reid, said he doesn’t know how the thieves got access to his car.

The Cadillac Escalade was parked in front of his apartment building, just off Stirling Road and Southwest 48th Avenue, when security cameras in the area caught two men walking through the parking lot, breaking into his truck and messing with the lights.

“My heart dropped,” said Reid. “I have the keys on me. I don’t leave them in the truck or anything like that.”

What makes things worse he said, is that the now stolen Cadillac Escalade is his lifeline.

He works construction and needs the truck to provide for his family. He also needs the tools inside. The thieves took off with Reid’s saws, drills and mixers, worth upwards of $10,000.

In a third blow to the family, the rent money was in the vehicle. It was $1,600 in cash.

Reid said he continues to work, but admits it is difficult to do his job without the right tools or transportation to get to different work sites.

The theft was reported to Broward Sheriff’s Deputies and the family has said they are leaving it to fate at this point.

Anyone with information about the crime is encouraged to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help the Reid family with the expenses to replace their missing rent money, tools and supplies.
