AVENTURA, Fla. – Firefighters and police officers responded to the Aventura Mall on Thursday night to deal with a small fire and to investigate a shooting that turned out to be related to domestic violence. No one was injured.

According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, firefighters responded to Bloomingdale’s, at 19555 Biscayne Blvd., where there was a small fire that was quickly extinguished.

There were also MDFR paramedics on standby at the mall after witnesses heard gunfire in the area. According to the Aventura Police Department, the shooting likely happened when a man was trying to get a gun away from a woman.

They knew each other, the man left before officers arrived, and the woman didn’t cooperate with police officers, so there was confusion about the man’s whereabouts, police said.

No other details were immediately released.
