Man dies after shooting in Fort Lauderdale

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A man was killed in a shooting on Monday morning in Fort Lauderdale.

It happened near the intersection of Northwest Eighth Street and Northwest 10th Terrace.

According to Lt. DeAnna Greenlaw, a spokeswoman for the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, officers found the man unconscious on the roadway after being shot at. Police say the shooting happened around 8:20 a.m.

The male victim was then transported to Broward Health Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

“Every effort was made on scene to save the victim’s life,” Greenlaw wrote. “He was transported to Broward Health Medical Center and pronounced dead.”

Relatives who were outside of the Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale identified the victim as Emmanuel St. Vil Derisse.

The relatives, who are Haitian, were seen breaking down in tears and yelling upon hearing the news of their relative.

A man who lives nearby in Fort Lauderdale where the shooting occurred says he heard the gunshots and ran out to find the victim laying in the roadway.

“I was trying to make him airways so he could breathe,” the man said. “And I knew I couldn’t move him or anything like that because the blood was coming from his neck area and mouth. I couldn’t do anything, but put pressure on the area.”

A white Jeep was towed away from the scene late Monday afternoon, added to the list of evidence. Police had previously sealed all the doors of the Jeep.

Authorities have not provided any information on a possible suspect or motive in the shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to call Fort Lauderdale Police or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
