DORAL, Fla. – The city of Doral honored veterans Thursday with a special ceremony at Veterans Park.
The new commander of the United States Southern Command, Gen. Laura J. Richardson, was the guest speaker.
The ceremony began at 9 a.m. at the park at 10190 NW 33rd St.
“America’s veterans have secured the liberty which the founding fathers sought to establish here in the new world,” Richardson told the crowd.
A group of locals came to show their support, standing for the presentation of colors.
Richards was surrounded by boy and girl scouts, who she called to stand beside her to be recognized as future leaders, maybe one day to follow in veterans’ footsteps.
“Grateful Americans often ask how can we thank our veterans,” Richardson said. “We can show gratitude by helping some of our homeless veterans in need or supporting our local veteran organizations.”
