Man accused of stealing merchandise, pulling out gun on gas station clerk

NORTH LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Broward Sheriff’s Office is searching for a man who they said stole from a gas station in North Lauderdale and then pulled a gun out on the clerk when he tried to stop him.

The incident occurred just before 1 p.m. Jan. 16 at the Mobil gas station at 1391 S. State Road 7.

According to BSO spokeswoman Gerdy St. Louis, the thief, who has long dreadlocks, was captured on surveillance video approaching the clerk’s window before being handed several products.

St. Louis said a verbal confrontation ensued and the man then left with store with the items he was handed, although he hadn’t paid for them.

The gas station clerk went outside to confront the thief, but the man pulled out a gun before fleeing in a silver Dodge RAM, St. Louis said.

Anyone with information about the suspect’s identity is asked to call BSO Robbery Detective Mark Copley at 954-321-4738. Anonymous tips can be made by calling Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477. A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest.
