DeSantis shares update on first lady’s breast cancer diagnosis

MIAMI – Gov. Ron DeSantis announced on Thursday Florida’s first lady is cancer free after months of treatment.

Casey DeSantis, 41, announced she was diagnosed with breast cancer in October and she completed chemotherapy in January. In his latest announcement, DeSantis, 43, said she also underwent surgery.

“There are no words to express how truly blessed, grateful and humbled I am to hear the words cancer free,” she said in a statement. “To those who are in the fight, know there is hope. Have faith and stay strong.”

The couple has a 3-year-old son named Mason and two daughters, 23-month-old Mamie and 5-year-old Madison.

“This is the exact type of news we had hoped for. She still has more to do, but I’m confident she’s going to make a full recovery,” the governor said in a statement. “Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers.”
