Local 10 catches up with racing legend ahead of Formula 1 Miami

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The race track around Hard Rock Stadium is ready to go for this weekend’s Formula 1 Grand Prix, and Local 10 News is catching up with some of the stars as they mingle before the race.

Mercedes’ driver Lewis Hamilton hung out with Tom Brady Wednesday at a charity golf event, and Local 10 News spoke one on one with racing legend and two-time Formula 1 champion Emerson Fittipaldi.

The racing icon says this track is made only for the best in the world, making for a heart-stopping show of speed and maneuver.

“The layout of the track is a very long stretch,” he said. “There’s going to be a tremendous breaking area. Very tough. Top speed. And then reduce to first gear. To balance the car there, it’ll be a challenge.”

For Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, it’ll be his first race in Miami.

“It’s my first time in Miami. First day,” he said. “I’ve been around the city a little bit and you can see that they’ve done everything right for it to be a huge event.”

The race car drivers shared the Miami-inspired gear they plan to wear on social media.

Formula 1 Miami also tweeted photos and video of the new Tiffany’s-made trophy for the winner of Sunday’s race.

“I think Ferrari has the best chance to win,” Fittipaldi said.
