Teen killed, 3 injured in shooting during Juneteenth celebration in nation’s capital

Search continues for shooter

WASHINGTON – A teen is dead and another three people were injured, including a police officer, after a shooting Sunday night in Washington, D.C.

The incident took place near a concert celebrating the Juneteenth holiday.

The youngest victim was just 15 years old.

Police believe this may have been the work of a lone attacker.

According to officials, the concert was an unauthorized event.

Police said a disturbance took place earlier in the evening, prompting some to leave, however a large crowd still remained in the area.

More than 100 officers were in the area patrolling at the time.

Bullets from the gunman struck an officer in the leg and killed a teenager.

“We have a child who was killed today at an event that did not have any proper planning for the number of people who were here, and with guns involved and with our police managing a crowd on site, somebody used a gun and a child is dead,” Mayor Muriel Bowser said.

The remaining victims were taken to a hospital, but their conditions have not yet been released.

Police are trying to figure out a motive and are still searching for the shooter.
