Local 10′s Nicole Perez reports from London

LONDON – History was made in England overnight as King Charles III was officially proclaimed the ruling monarch.

In a practice that dates back to the Middle Ages, the historic ceremony took place in St. James’s Palace.

As Britain bids goodbye to its longest-serving monarch, and as the tributes continue to grow, a grieving nation is also ushering in a new era.

In his first address to the nation, King Charles III paid tribute to his mother Queen Elizabeth II, thanking her for her 70 years of service and for her devotion to her family.

“To my darling momma, as you begin your last great journey to join my dear late papa, I want simply to say this: ‘Thank you,’” said King Charles III.

Thousands of people in London continued to pay their respects to the Queen, but are also confident that King Charles III is ready for the opportunity.

Nicole Hankin, a supporter of King Charles spoke with Local 10 News and said, “He’s waited a long time, and it’s about time he shows the people that he can do the job.”

Gary Bradford Matthews, another King Charles III supporter said, “I hope he fulfills the expectations of the British public and has a long and happy prosperous time as king.
