He said the victim was covered in bruises and had severe injuries all over her body from the attack.

According to Linhardt, Christopher Wesley Lockett slapped and punched the 40-year-old woman and then choked her with a belt and necklace multiple times until she lost consciousness.

He said Lockett also told the woman he was going to kill her.

The victim suffered injuries to her eyes, a broken nose and injuries to her brain.

She was initially taken to Fishermen’s Hospital in Marathon and then was transported to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital.

Linhardt said Lockett tried to clean up the crime scene before deputies arrived. He was arrested Tuesday by authorities in Sarasota and will be brought down to Monroe County to face charges of aggravated battery, domestic battery and tampering with evidence.

Jail records in Sarasota show he also faces charges of battery on a law enforcement officer, firefighter or EMT, resisting an officer and criminal mischief involving property damage.
