FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – As a strong cold front in South Florida is expected to drop temperatures to the 40′s on Friday and Saturday, Broward County’s Homeless Initiative Partnership announced Thursday that they will distribute blankets and cold weather gear to the homeless.
The BCHIP has also partnered up with Broward Sheriff’s Office, Homeless Outreach Team and the Multi-Agency Homeless Taskforce to offer a helping hand to the homeless as the weekend cold front draws closer.

According to news release by the Broward County Commission, “Dozens of new blankets and additional items like socks and toiletries will be distributed to unsheltered homeless individuals in Broward County to provide some warmth when, according to the National Weather Service, temperatures are supposed to drop this Friday and Saturday.”
“Homelessness is a community problem that requires a collective community response driven through collaboration,” Broward County Human Services Department Director Tara Williams said in a news release. “That is why we highly value our partnership with BSO and our network of committed, compassionate homeless services providers in a coordinated and strategic effort to make sure on the coldest nights of the year, no lives are lost among the many - too many - individuals experiencing street homelessness in Broward County.
Broward County will also activate cold weather shelters right before the holidays at the locations below on December 23 and 24 from 6 p.m. to 9 a.m.
