MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Miami Gardens police arrested an 18-year-old man Tuesday evening after accusing him of sexually assaulting a 4-year-old girl in late January.
According to an arrest report, Khari Smith was watching the victim and a 6-year-old girl at their home in Miami Gardens on Jan. 19.

The report states that the girls’ father went into his bedroom, noticed Smith’s shoes inside, and asked the girls what they were doing there.
Police said the girl tearfully explained that Smith had kissed her on the mouth and sexually assaulted her.
The report states that the girl told investigators during a Jan. 31 interview that Smith had come into the bedroom while she was playing a game on her tablet before sexually assaulting her.
Following a medical examination, practitioners determined that the case represented sexual abuse, police wrote.
Police interviewed Smith, who claimed that he went into the bedroom to play a video game but he denied abusing the girl, the report states.
He was taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a charge of sexual battery on a minor, where he was being held without bond as of Wednesday afternoon.
