Teenage twins honored for their volunteer work with nonprofit Joshua’s Heart

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Two extraordinary teenagers who are helping to make a difference in South Florida food insecure communities are being highlighted on Local 10 News’ latest My Future, My Choice segment.

They raised money for an organization that provides quality groceries for people in need.

“It’s just great,” said Claudia McLean with Joshua’s Heart Foundation. “Knowing that they were determined to make it happen.”

Joshua’s Heart has been helping South Florida, the Caribbean and the world fight hunger and poverty for nearly 18 years.

The self-proclaimed little charity has received some big help though, in the form of some big fundraising from some big-hearted 16 year olds.

Twins Charlotte and Julia Krass say they have been volunteering with Joshua’s Heart since they were six years old.

The past couple of years, they spearheaded a huge fundraising effort, from selling bracelets that say “stomp out hunger” which is the slogan for Joshua’s Heart, to hitting up family members and friends, tapped corporate donors, helping raise $92,000 to make the non-profit’s new, refrigerated van a reality.

The non-profit honored the twins on Wednesday with a special presidential recognition for their volunteer service.

“That’s what we love about the kids who volunteer with Joshua’s Heart, it becomes a part of them, a part of their life,” said McLean.
