Man hospitalized after possible lightning strike in southwest Miami-Dade, authorities say

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A man was hospitalized after a possible lightning strike Thursday afternoon in southwest Miami-Dade, authorities said.

The incident was reported at 22700 SW Eighth St., just west of Everglades Safari Park.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials said the man was transported to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital’s West Trauma Center.

Local 10 News spoke with employees of an airboat company who said the incident happened at a construction site near their business.

An employee of the airboat company told Local 10 that they believe that the worker was struck by lightning while inside a piece of equipment.

“There was a very big storm here and we had to stop our airboats tours due to the lightning and safety of our customers. The paramedics and ambulance came, and they were helping a construction worker in the truck that had drove over here as if something had happened alongside the road,” the employee said.

His condition has not been released.
