The driver of the 2016 Chevrolet Equinox immediately stopped, remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Excessive speed was not considered a factor in the accident, according to BSO.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit reported that the driver of the Equinox was traveling northbound on South State Road 7 in the inside-thru lane. At that time, the woman was attempting to cross South State Road 7 outside of a designated crosswalk traveling from east to west. Reports say she was “mid-block” of the crosswalk. Other traffic on the road began to slow as the driver of the Equinox continued forward. The initial investigation found that “the pedestrian ran into the path of the Chevy Equinox and was projected onto the roadway.”

On Monday, June 26, BSO detectives received a notification from the Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office that the pedestrian had died from injuries sustained in the crash.

The traffic homicide unit’s investigation of the crash continues.
