According to police, officers responded to the Shell gas station at 1492 S. Dixie Highway around 8:20 a.m. Sunday in reference to a man who had stolen several items from the convenience store and battered an employee.

The arrest report states that Negron had eaten two sandwiches, totaling $20, inside the store before leaving without paying for them.

Police said he returned a short time later and grabbed an energy drink before getting into an argument with a store employee.

During the confrontation, Negron slammed the drink down and punched the victim in the back of the head, authorities said.

According to his arrest report, he then left the store, but was stopped by an officer at 1450 Madruga Ave. and was taken into custody.

Police said a records check revealed that Negron was currently on probation. One of the officers spoke on the phone with Negron’s probation officer before placing him in the back of a patrol car, at which time he spat three times at the officer and hit the officer twice in the elbow, authorities said.

Police said Negron then head-butted another officer before he was finally transported to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

As of Monday afternoon, he remained jailed in lieu of a $12,000 bond.
