MARATHON, Fla. – A 55-year-old Key West man was arrested Monday after he stabbed another man in the throat at a bus station in Marathon, authorities announced Tuesday.

According to Monroe County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Adam Linhardt, the 39-year-old victim told deputies that he was at the bus station, located at 5585 Overseas Highway, when a man, later identified as Jamaal Tammara Coleman, approached him and asked him for $5.

The victim told deputies that he declined to give Coleman the money and a physical altercation ensued, at which point Coleman “stabbed or slashed” him in the throat, Linhardt said.

The victim was taken to Fishermen’s Hospital in Marathon. His condition has not been released.

Coleman, meanwhile, was arrested on a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. Linhardt said more charges may be pending.
