Police: Hollywood man arrested following string of armed robberies using Facebook Marketplace

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – Hollywood police announced the arrest of an 18-year-old man Thursday, who they accused of committing multiple armed robberies throughout the month of June.

According to Hollywood police spokesperson Deanna Bettineschi, Matthew Carr was arrested Wednesday after being accused of multiple armed robberies in the area of South 56th Avenue and Washington Street.

Police said all of Carr’s robberies were executed while buying or selling merchandise through Facebook Marketplace.

After a thorough investigation by Hollywood detectives, Carr was identified as the suspect responsible for several armed robberies in Hollywood and throughout Broward County.

Authorities said Carr was taken into custody by Hollywood detectives along with detectives with the US Marshals Service and Florida Caribbean Regional Task Force.

According to jail records, Carr was booked into the Broward Main Jail Wednesday and is being held without bond.

He is facing five charges that include two counts each of armed robbery and illegal possession of a firearm, and one count of robbery by sudden snatching without a weapon.
