MCSO: Deputies find loaded gun, weed during traffic stop of Keys convicted felon

MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – A traffic stop led to the arrest of a convicted felon who had marijuana and a loaded gun in his vehicle in the Florida Keys, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Friday.

According to MCSO spokesperson Adam Linhardt, Craig Adonis Etherly, 30, is facing charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of marijuana and violation of probation.

Linhardt said Etherly was in a red Toyota that was stopped at approximately 8:49 p.m. Thursday near Mile Marker 107 after deputies learned that the registered owner had a suspended license.

After conducting a traffic stop, deputies said a strong odor of marijuana was coming from the vehicle Etherly was driving.

While conducting a vehicle search, authorities said they found a loaded 9mm handgun and approximately 12.5 grams of marijuana, all of which Etherly claimed ownership of.

Linhardt confirmed Etherly had a previous drug-related conviction in 2021.

He was taken to jail and is being held without bond.
