Video shows man shooting liquor store employee in northwest Miami-Dade, police say

MIAMI – Local 10 News obtained exclusive surveillance video Friday of a man who police said shot a liquor store employee in northwest Miami-Dade.

It happened shortly before 6 p.m. Thursday outside Jensen’s Liquors, along the 7900 block of North Miami Avenue, located in the county’s unincorporated West Little River area.

According to police, a customer came inside demanding a refund, but an employee explained that the store did not give refunds.

Additional surveillance video showed the customer taking a bottle of liquor on display and walking out of the store without paying, police said, which led to an argument in the parking lot between the employee and the customer.

That’s when the customer pulled out a gun and shot the employee in the stomach, police said.

The customer took off on a blue bicycle and remains on the run. Police consider the man armed and dangerous.

“Anyone faced with this situation, any store employees or the general public, no piece of property -- no matter what the value -- is worth your life. Please do not struggle with an assailant or anyone trying to do you harm,” Miami-Dade Police Det. Andre Martin said. “This is an individual who has already shot and injured one person over a piece of property. If you see this person, call 911 immediately.”

The employee was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center and remains in critical, but stable condition.

He is a 63-year-old man who has worked at the store for about six years and has kids, according to his colleagues.

Anyone with information or who thinks they recognize the suspect is urged to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
