MIAMI – Some South Florida residents are going to great lengths to protect — of all things — their holiday decorations, after a big rash of thefts.
Surveillance video has captured much of the Grinch’s actions, like outside of a Miami home belonging to a man named Ricardo, located near Southwest Sixth Street and 63rd Avenue.
He said he was shocked someone would go through the effort, adding that his wife loves the holiday decorations, but this year, he boxed the rest of them up, saying they aren’t cheap.
At Ray Camacho’s home on Fontainebleau Boulevard in Sweetwater, another miserable Scrooge got away with his decorations.
“I went outside and sure enough, there’s nothing there,” he said.
He and his wife are new homeowners and were so happy to put up a big Santa Claus.
“I personally wanted a 20-foot one, my wife wanted the 8-foot one, so we compromised and got the 8-foot one,” Camacho said. “It looked great.”
The Christmas crimes are not so isolated. On Monday, Local 10 News reported on a Grinch in Miami Gardens and some holiday heists in Hialeah.
Some of those victims want to start placing their decorations up on the roof, while others are looking at AirTags to protect these inflatables for years to come.
“I mean, of course I was upset about it, but I decided, you know what? I’ll double down. I’ll get a bigger one and see if this guy can take that too and we’ll keep going. He’s not going to stomp on my Christmas spirit, that’s for sure,” said Camacho.
