MIAMI – Police arrested a man Wednesday who they said pistol-whipped another man and took his gold chain and iPhone in Miami’s Allapattah neighborhood nearly three months ago.

After agreeing to hang out, police said Rodriguez told the victim he would pick him up around 3:30 p.m. and parked his car on Northwest 24th Avenue and Northwest 31st Street in a dark-colored Toyota Corolla along with the two women to wait for him.

As the victim walked toward the vehicle, police said he entered the rear right passenger seat next to Rodriguez, who was also sitting in the backseat.

While inside the car, Rodriguez took out a black handgun and hit the victim several times in the head while demanding his jewelry and iPhone 14, according to an arrest report.

The victim attempted to step out of the vehicle but was stopped by the female driver after she locked the door and prevented the victim from exiting, police said.

The victim, “In fear for his life” gave his gold chain and iPhone 14 to Rodriguez and was then able to exit the vehicle, the report stated.

The victim ran back to his house and notified his mother who then called the police, authorities said.

The victim later identified Rodriguez as the individual who took his belongings at gunpoint through a photo lineup, according to detectives.

Miami Police Department’s Felony Apprehension Team arrested Rodriguez around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday and transported him to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center where he is being held without bond, his arrest report states.

Authorities did not identify the relationship between the victim and Rodriguez, nor did they announce any other arrests that were connected to the incident.

According to jail records, Rodriguez is facing one count of attempted robbery with a deadly weapon.
