8-year-old released from hospital, family recovering following West Park home explosion

WEST PARK, Fla. – When looking at the destruction left behind following a home explosion in West Park, it is hard to imagine how anyone would make it out alive.

Two woman and two children did just that.

In a split second, the house was leveled following the massive explosion early Tuesday morning.

The blast was captured on multiple home surveillance cameras.

A large fireball could be seen, followed by debris raining down across the neighborhood.

Eight-year-old Rodinski Beval was inside the home at the time of the explosion with his 14-year-old sister Chouline Joseph, his 39-year-old mother Rodeline Joseph and his 66-year-old grandmother, Mercelle Ledix.

While the three remain in the hospital with severe burns and injuries, Beval has since been released, still with visible burns to his face and leg.

“My face was burning and I couldn’t even walk,” he said.

The boy told Local 10 News’ Roy Ramos that all he remembers is his mother pulling him from the rubble.

His aunt, Renette Ledix, remembered first getting the news of the catastrophic explosion.

“When they told me the house blew up even my father thought everyone died,” she said.

Remarkably, that was not the case, but looking at what is left of the home, it’s surprising anyone survived.

The blast was so forceful that it damaged more than a dozen homes in the community.

Investigators are continuing to work to find out what led up to the explosion, which they say was caused by gas.
