Police officers find 2 children, sick puppy in Broward house without running water or power

Detectives investigate new heartbreaking child and animal neglect case in Hallandale Beach

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Living in a Broward County house without running water or power, police officers found two children who are 5 and 12 years old, and a very sick little puppy on Thursday.

Body cam video shows a police officer gently holding the pitbull and carrying him from his patrol car to a veterinary clinic. In a kind voice tone, he made a promise: “I am going to get you some help.”

Police said upon their arrival, the puppy was covered in little blood blisters and pus.

“It’s is pretty serious,” said Sgt Nini Mcardle, a spokeswoman for the Hallandale Beach Police Department, about the case adding that there were ongoing investigations on Friday afternoon.

Mcardle said the children were also getting help. Dr. Carlos Ameijeiras, of the Neighborhood Veterinary Center in Hallandale Beach, diagnosed the puppy with an infection generally caused by neglect.

“It will probably take 4-6 months at a minimum to nurse this fur baby to health,” Anabelle Lima-Taub, of the Hollywood-based nonprofit Paws 2 Care Coalition, Inc., wrote in a GoFundMe account with a $3,000 goal.

Police said they called Child Protective Services who are also investigating the incident.

Detectives were asking anyone with information about the case to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
