Broward deputies, firefighters brighten Christmas for 8-year-old explosion victim

MIAMI – On Wednesday, 8-year-old Rodinski Beval’s life changed when his house exploded in West Park, sending him and his family members to the hospital. He lost everything.

Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies and firefighters stepped up and made his Christmas special.

Rodinski spent almost two days in the hospital and was discharged on Thursday. When he returned home, he had a chance to meet the crews who pulled him from the rubble of his home.

“The firefighters saved me and they (brought) me to the hospital,” Rodinski said. “They gave me a fire hat.”

Rodinski shot some hoops with the crews and also received some Christmas gifts. His favorite gift?

“The bike,” he said.

Rodinski was still on the mend Tuesday, receiving treatment at Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Miami Burn Center.

But, he told Local 10 News, “I’m feeling good.”

Rodinski’s teenage sister Chouline Joseph, mother Rodeline Joseph and grandmother Mercelle Ledix still remain in the hospital with severe burns and injuries.

His aunt said that her loved ones are making progress, but they have a long road to recovery.
