Child airlifted to hospital after falling from North Miami apartment building window

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. – A 4-year-old child was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital Wednesday morning after falling from an apartment building window in North Miami, police confirmed.

The incident was reported at 8:13 a.m. at the Prestige Villa apartments, located in the 13000 block of Northeast Sixth Avenue.

Neighbors told Local 10 News reporter Saira Anwer that the child is boy, who fell from a fourth-floor window.

Anwer was at the scene as police were seen speaking with witnesses. A child’s blanket was spotted on the ground along with a window screen.

North Miami police confirmed that the child was playing near the window with his mother before he fell out of the window.

The boy was taken to JMH’s Ryder Trauma Center. He was conscious but suffered a head injury, according to neighbors.

“We came out, and the woman was banging to try to get, what I know now, is to get to her son,” one neighbor said.

The neighbor, who didn’t want her face shown on camera, said she could hear the desperation in the child’s mother’s voice, and she called for help.

“I hope he’s OK,” she said. “I hope he’s conscious. I hope that he recovers.”

No other details were immediately known.

It’s unclear whether the child’s mother will face charges.
