Cops seek shovel-wielding burglar in Miami Shores

He was caught on camera at 2 homes

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Police in Miami Shores are asking for the public’s help finding a shovel-wielding burglar.

They said the suspect hit two homes in the village just before noon on Tuesday.

In the first burglary, off Northeast 107th Street, the suspect tries doors and latches to no avail. He then moved on to plan B.

“He came across a shovel and he used that shovel to break the sliding glass door latch,” Cmdr. Kerry Turner, a Miami Shores Police Department spokesperson, said.

Turner said the suspect was able to break the latch but couldn’t get inside, so he moved on to another house just a few blocks away on Northeast 105th Street.

He tried a few doors at that house before successfully entering, coming out about a half-hour later with a bicycle and a bag full of stolen items.

Police said the suspect looked too bold and comfortable to be new to committing burglaries.

“He looks like he’s experienced. He’s done this before,” Turner said. “We’re looking for a police officer or a detective who may have had contact with him in the past, may recognize him.”

Anyone who has information or thinks they recognize the suspect is asked to call MSPD at 305-759-2468 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
