‘God saved us’: Mother who survived Oct. 7 Hamas attack shares her story

AVENTURA, Fla. – A woman who survived Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack on Israel shared her story with Local 10 News on Friday.

On the day of the terrorist attack, Dorin Cohen heard sirens outside of her home in southern Israel.

“The moment we knew it was terrorists was when we heard them outside,” Cohen said.

She took her children, 3-year-old Adam and 4-month-old Jonathan, to a bomb shelter, where they spent 30 hours. Their house was set on fire.

They couldn’t speak because they were afraid of the terrorists in their home.

Jonathan was getting dehydrated.

“I was nursing him and I didn’t have any more milk,” Cohen said. “We almost died.”

Cohen, who sent a picture to a family member, convinced they would die in the shelter, of a drawer where she was going to hide baby Jonathan.

She said her family’s survival was a “miracle.”

“I was speaking to God the whole time in the shelter,” she said. “I did think God saved us.”
