Man dragged pregnant girlfriend ‘through the streets’ after punching her, Miami police say

Police: It was all because she reported him for domestic violence

MIAMI – A 37-year-old man is facing three felony charges after Miami police said he punched his pregnant girlfriend multiple times in the face and then “dragged her through the streets,” all because she made a police report against him.

Jean Washington, of northwest Miami-Dade’s Brownsville area, was already in custody at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center when authorities formally arrested him in connection with this incident Monday.

He had originally been arrested on Thursday on charges that included a sex offender registration violation. He was previously convicted of aggravated sexual battery in Dougherty County, Georgia, state records show.

According to police, Washington’s assault on his girlfriend happened on the afternoon of Jan. 8 near the intersection of North Miami Avenue and Northeast 75th Street in Miami’s Little River neighborhood.

Police said Washington got out of the passenger’s seat of a car after seeing his girlfriend, three months pregnant with his child, standing on the corner.

He then confronted her about a police report she had filed earlier in the day, an arrest report states.

The report states Washington said, “Why you called (sic) the police and putting (sic) charges? You better call them and drop them, you know I’m on papers!”

He then proceeded to punch her and drag her and then ran off, police said.

Washington, who remained in TGK as of Monday afternoon, now faces charges of witness tampering, aggravated battery of a pregnant victim and battery with two or more prior convictions.

His bond was listed as “to be set” in Miami-Dade jail records.
