FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – David and Ana Knezevich had been married for about 13 years. They lived in a house in Fort Lauderdale and ran a computer support business together. She also worked in real estate.
They were going through a divorce — that relatives described as both “tough” and “nasty” — in Broward County when she vanished earlier this month in Spain and he traveled to his native Serbia.
Ana Knezevich’s brother Felipe Henao and her best friend, Sanna Rameau, fear foul play.
Detectives have not named David Knezevich a suspect or a person of interest, but they want to talk to him and haven’t been able to reach him.
The building in Madrid where Ana Knezevich had been living since late last year reported that a man had used black spray paint to block the surveillance cameras.
Henao and Rameau said they also received very odd text messages from her phone that they were sure had not been written by her and were out of character.
Rameau said she and her best friend had traveled together before, and it wasn’t like her to disappear before a planned trip. She was supposed to fly to Barcelona.
Henao and Rameau both called her husband to ask him to help search for her, but he didn’t.
Relatives said detectives in Fort Lauderdale and Madrid both had open cases, but there was a language barrier so there wasn’t much cooperation. They were asking anyone with information about her whereabouts to contact the U.S. State Department at 1-888-407-4747.
