DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. – A routine stop at a gas station turned into a harrowing ordeal for one man after deputies said a Broward woman allegedly stole his pickup truck with him inside the bed of the truck and subsequently crashed it before fleeing the scene.

According to an arrest report, Carolina Bonilla, 20, of Deerfield Beach, attempted to make off with the man’s truck while he briefly stepped into the Kwik Stop gas station, located at 540 NE 44th St., in Deerfield Beach, prompting a frantic pursuit by the victim.

Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies said the incident occurred on the evening of Feb 21.

According to deputies, Bonilla drove erratically with the victim still in the truck bed.

He continued to scream “Stop!” as he banged on the glass of the rear window of his truck, causing it to shatter, an arrest affidavit stated.

Deputies said Bonilla eventually collided with another vehicle before coming to a halt on Dixie Highway.

She then fled the scene on foot, and the victim got in the driver’s seat of his truck and followed her, authorities said.

According to the arrest report, the victim followed her inside a nearby Circle K gas station, where he detained her until deputies arrived.

Deputies said they arrived to find the victim holding Bonilla by her hair as she was trying to get away.

Deputies confirmed they have obtained surveillance footage capturing the alarming sequence of events.

Bonilla’s arrest report shows that she is facing a litany of charges, including grand theft auto, false imprisonment, leaving the scene of a crash and criminal mischief.

As of Monday, jail records show Bonilla remains in custody at the Paul Rein Detention Facility on a $13,500 bond.
