Miami Cuban exiles call on world leaders to stop subsidizing regime

MIAMI – Members of Miami’s Cuban exile community gathered at the Casa Del Preso house of political prisoners, sharing voices from Cuba.

Dr. Orlando Gutierrez Boronat believes the world is witnessing a movement gaining traction.

“So there can be a nonviolent transformation in Cuba and a democratic government can come to power,” he said. “These demonstrations are in some areas bigger than July 11, 2021.”

The event also introduced a new anthem from Cuban rapper El Funky, a soundtrack to the call for a national stop.

“From housewives, from workers, from youth, from people, their homes and in the streets, calling for a national strike,” Boronat said.

Speakers also urged the Cuban police and military not to repress the Cuban people

“Because I know that arrests are already taking place, at least a dozen youth were arrested in Bayamo in the last few hours,” said Boronat.

There was also a call to action to world leaders in Europe and Canada to stop subsidizing the regime and repression, and a call to action to community members to join them and what they call a “walk of freedom” happening Sunday at 10 a.m. along 13th Avenue in Miami, starting at the Bay of Pigs Monument.

According to the CIA World Factbook, Cuba’s top export partners are “China 38%, Spain 11%, Netherlands 5%, Germany 5%” and the communist country’s top import partners are “Spain 19%, China 15%, Italy 6%, Canada 5%, Russia 5%, United States 5%, Brazil 5%.”
