Davie police make arrest in gruesome case of decapitated calf

DAVIE, Fla. – Police arrested a man in a case of gruesome animal cruelty.

Back in October, caretakers of a Davie cow pasture told investigators they found a calf with its head cut off in the middle of the field and a bloody machete discarded near a gate.

Crime scene technicians swabbed the blade and blue handle of the machete and made a DNA match to Curry O’Meally, who also matched the description of a caller who said they saw someone suspicious in the field armed with a machete.

A day later, Davie investigators would learn the Broward Sheriff’s Office arrested O’Meally, 31, after finding him with a baby cow head wrapped in a trash bag inside a black gym bag. He told the deputy the cow head was for religious purposes.

O’Meally’s arrest warrant states that he “intentionally used a machete to attack the legs and spine of the calf before decapitating it, which resulted in the cruel death of said calf.”

He was arrested last week in Marion County and is facing several charges, to include animal cruelty and trespassing.
