BSO: Armed robbery suspect leads police on chase, barricades himself inside car on I-95

WEST PARK, Fla. – Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies and Miami-Dade police worked together to detain an armed robbery suspect Tuesday morning who had barricaded himself inside a car on the side of Interstate 95, authorities confirmed.

According to BSO spokeswoman Gerdy St. Louis, the suspect, identified as Darnell Paul, 27, carjacked a woman he knew at gunpoint just after 11:50 p.m. Monday near the 2700 block of South State Road 7 in West Park.

St. Louis said a BOLO (Be-On-The-Look-Out) was issued for the vehicle and subject to surrounding agencies.

She said the car was eventually located and a chase ensued in both Broward and Miami-Dade counties, with assistance from the Miami-Dade Police Department.

According to St. Louis, Paul crashed the vehicle shortly before 3 a.m. Tuesday along the off-ramp of Interstate 95 southbound at Miami Gardens Drive.

She said he then barricaded himself inside the vehicle.

“A lot of police officers, and we were basically told that there was an armed suspect out in the streets and they were trying to find him, and we were basically shut out of our businesses,” Warren Moore, who owns a nearby business told Local 10 News.

Moore and several of his employees were trying to get work in the morning, but were sent home because of all the chaos that played out.

“I have not seen that many police officers in a long time,” he said.

Miami-Dade police confirmed shortly after 9 a.m. that the suspect had been detained.

The southbound lanes of I-95 at Ives Dairy Road were shut down during the investigation, but have since reopened.

Court records show Paul has been in and out of prison since 2015.

According to jail records, he is now facing charges that include attempted murder, carjacking and illegal possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
