Surveillance video released of Pompano Beach drive-by shooting that injured 10-year-old boy

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – The Broward Sheriff’s Office released surveillance video Monday of a drive-by shooting from March that left a 10-year-old boy injured.

The shooting occurred around 6:35 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, near the 300 block of Northwest 18th Avenue in Pompano Beach.

“Surveillance video of the crime shows the victim dribbling a basketball while crossing the street. As the child bounces the ball, another subject wearing a green hoodie and long black pants enters the frame riding a scooter. A few seconds later, a gray sedan drives by, and shots are fired,” BSO spokeswoman Gerdy St. Louis said in a news release. “In the video, you see the scooter rider drop to the ground, as the 10-year-old boy takes off running. The vehicle turns north and flees the scene.”

According to St. Louis, deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue crews responded to the scene and the boy was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries listed as not life-threatening.

No other injuries were reported.

A motive for the shooting has not yet been released.
