Upon arrival, investigators said emergency crews located Justys Whittle, 26, of Lauderdale Lakes and Shakeif Brown, 26, of North Lauderdale, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics pronounced Whittle dead at the scene and transported Brown to an area hospital, where he later died.

According to witnesses, Whittle attempted to fight Brown over an ongoing feud, BSO said.

During the fight, another subject attempted to defuse the fight when Whittle pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots, according to detectives.

The subject, who was also armed, then pulled out his weapon and returned fire, deputies confirmed.

The subject, who has not been identified by authorities, was taken into custody for questioning and later released.
