2 hospitalized after shooting, stabbing in Medley

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A stabbing and shooting near a truck yard in Medley left two men hospitalized Tuesday afternoon, authorities confirmed.

It happened near the intersection of 91st Street and 87th Avenue.

Sky 10 flew over the scene just before 2 p.m. where Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews were treating a person at the scene before they were eventually airlifted by a helicopter to a nearby hospital.

Medley police said upon their arrival, officers found a man by a dump truck with an “apparent gunshot wound to the face.”

As first responders were attending to the shooting victim, police said they were alerted to another man near a vehicle in the parking lot of the truck yard who was found with multiple stab wounds to the abdomen.

“When officers encountered him, he was just outside of the dump truck,” said Ernest Rodriguez, who works nearby. “They were flagged down regarding an additional male.”

Medley police later confirmed one man was shot and transported to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital and the other man, who was stabbed, was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.

Police confirmed that the man who sustained a gunshot wound to the face remains in critical condition, while the individual who was stabbed is presently in stable condition.

Authorities said that they are unaware of the owner of the truck yard and emphasized that there is currently no known threat to the community.

Police said they are still seeking information regarding the relationship between both men and their possible connection to the truck yard.

Authorities have not released any information about the victims’ ages or identities, and no arrests have been announced at this time.

A motive for the stabbing and shooting remains unclear.

“If anyone happened to be in the area, pedestrians, drivers, anything like that who may have seen either before, during, or after the incident occurred, we are asking them to come forward and contact the Medley Police Department at 305-883-2047,” said Officer Deglys Chavarria, an MDP spokesperson.
