Man, 33, accused of shooting victim after having sex with ex in Miami Gardens

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – A 33-year-old man could be spending a long time behind bars after police say he shot a victim moments after having sex with his ex-girlfriend in Miami Gardens last month.

It happened along Northwest 211th Street and Eighth Avenue around 5:15 a.m. on March 4.

According to an arrest report from the Miami Gardens Police Department, Gregory Congalez Jay Jr., of Miami Gardens, was having sex with his ex-girlfriend inside a car when the victim approached the vehicle to confront him.

As the victim approached the vehicle, police said Jay pulled out a gun and shot him before fleeing the scene.

Authorities confirmed paramedics took the victim to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where he survived.

Police said the victim and the suspect’s ex both identified Jay as the shooter and the victim said he believed the suspect was “intentionally trying to kill him.”

Jay’s arrest report states that he did not want to speak with detectives unless an attorney was present.

As of Thursday, he was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond has not been determined.

Miami Gardens police confirmed that Jay is facing one count of attempted first-degree murder with a deadly weapon.
